Why is this news?

I just watched a segment on the Today show about a married mother of a one year old that ran off with her boyfriend......she "went shopping" but forgot to come home.....for several days. A missing person alert was sent out and police say they spent over $5000 on a nationwide search.
The woman was found, in Miami, with her also married boyfriend, and they are now reporting they are in love and want to stay together.
WHY IS THIS NEWS?
Why is it news that a woman made a bad decision, scared the daylights out of her family, but is sticking by her decision to not return to her husband and daughter. Is it a sad story? yes, for the family I feel sympathy.....but has anyone thought that maybe they are better off? Not right now in the minute....but in the long run?
I ask this only because this happened in our family about 20 something years ago. My uncle was a young college student when his girlfriend got pregnant with my cousin. They got married, tried the happy family thing, but ultimately the mom ran off with a boyfriend and abandoned my uncle and his toddler son. Nic was raised by my uncle and my grandparents from his toddler years to high school, when my uncle married my amazing aunt Pam. Just because you give birth to someone does not make you a mother. Nic's mom was better off for leaving and our family was better off for having her gone. While I am thankful that Nic still has a relationship with his mom, he has become an incredible young man that was raised by a father that wanted to be there(most of the time, right Ron? haha) and that made all the difference.
Time to get off my soap box.

Now here is some real news......
I just gave Jane a granola bar, she said "thank you" and I said "you're welcome...I love you!" and she said "I LOVE YOU!" back to me......the first time ever she has said that back to me.....
WHERE ARE THE NEWS CAMERAS WHEN YOU NEED THEM!??

O-M-Goodness

The hubby and I had date night lastnight. Yipee! I'll spare you the details(we shopped for deck furniture people, get your minds out of the gutter!) but one thing deserves to be passed along.
We rented the movie "Brothers"
It was "oh my great goodness" good.
I highly recommend it, but only if you have a lot of kleenex and can handle an emotional rollercoaster.
I personally do not enjoy regular rollercoasters, but emotional ones, bring it on.
This movie is about a husband who goes to Afghanistan, gets shot down in his helicopter, and is presumed dead. His family back home(a wife, two daughters, his parents and his brother) move on with their lives. Well, he is rescued, comes home and finds his family somewhat "happy" and he is suffering tremendously from PTSD. The acting is award worthy and the story line is so much more than it was advertised for. As Andy put it..."this movie was advertised as a dude comes back from the war to learn that his brother has been doin' his wife."
If only it were that simple.
This movie was a-mazing......a total must-see.
rent it.
NOW!!!

Justin Bieber

I know nothing about this person/kid/Disney's new thing.
In the car this evening one of his songs came on the Disney channel radio station. I seriously thought it was a girl singing, and I said as much to Tess. She then said....
"You want to hear a rumor about him that is going around school?"
"Sure" (uh-oh)
"They are saying he pays someone to kick him in the balls so he can sing that high."

hahahahahahahaha.
I mean that is not funny, and we don't use that type of language in our house. We call them "tenders"(from Kung Fu Panda) or "junk" for goodness sake.

I know, I know...

long time, no blog posts.
It isn't because I haven't tried. I have a small bit of envy for those that blog daily and actually have something worthwhile to say. Turns out that isn't my style. So I guess I will just catch everyone up on the stuff that is our life.

The girls are great. Allergies are kicking our rears, but we are maintaining. Tess did not have one cold this winter when she usually had 3-4 easily. She is having moderate problems now due to the crazy high pollen count....but who isn't. The real change is that she can blow her nose and something actually comes out. That is a surgical Victory with a capital V!! Tess has a piano recital on May 2nd at the church. We would love a big audience, so feel free to come listen.
I cut Jane's curls off in the back. She has a cute little bobbed haircut. Makes her really look like a little Tess. She has more words every day and wants to be outside from sun up to sun down.
Kate is such a good little helper. Even on days when chores are the main event, she helps me without complaint. I always try and give her something that seems like a big deal, and she typically carries it out with gusto. She starts T-ball next week and is ready to swing for the fence....she wants a home run every at bat. Such a daddy's girl.

We had a scare last week with Andy's mom. A suspicious spot was found on a mammogram, she had a simple OP surgery, and the results came back as cancer. Thankfully, the cancer is very very early and very very treatable. She will have another surgery and some radiation...but the big picture is very positive, and for that we are thankful. God is good.

Andy and I are busy outside in our never-ending quest to make our yard an outdoor sanctuary. I sometimes wonder if all the work is worth it, especially when the July/August sun is scorching everything in the backyard....but for the early summer and fall months our yard typically looks beautiful and brings us great JOY. I am so thankful to have a husband that takes pride in our yard. It makes me so proud that all the neighbor kids want to come play in OUR yard because even in the heat of summer it is still soft and green.

My job has hit an all time low this month. We have several challenging patients that are wearing me slick...emotionally, mentally, and physically. It has been rough, and a job change is sounding really good. I took this job to be an acute care psychiatric nurse and my job description has changed to adult day care worker. I miss my crazy people. Not that the patients I take care of daily don't have a mental illness, because for the most part they do, that's why they are there. I just miss the see 'em, fix 'em amd send 'em type of treatment style.

Andy's job is weird right now. That isn't the best adjective, but it somehow describes the situation. The fire department is in the middle of WW3 with the board of directors over health insurance. Everyone's premiums went up, but the families are the only ones going to pay more. The single people will still get 100% of their insurance paid for, while family coverage pays an increase for theirs and absorbs the single coverage's increase too. It's turned ugly, and the Union is ready to tussle. In other words, the firefighters have been instructed to not do ANYTHING extra that is not in their job description....i.e. school visits, car seat inspections/installations, teach EMT classes, public appearances, mow the yard......which is going to kill Andy. The fire department yard is his baby. I'm not kidding. It appears the Board members have lost their minds. The Kearney Fire Department has always been a VERY FAMILY oriented department. This is such an insult to the guys, and even though it has money at the core, it is heart-warming to see these guys fight for their families. I've always called the Union a mafia, and I'm pretty sure Cousin Guido is gettin' involved, if ya know what I mean.

Speaking of my man, I don't talk about him much and I don't really know why. He is such an integral part of my life that he should get a shout-out from me every day. I really should dedicate an entire post to him. Hmmmmmm........more on that later. Jane is running around naked, which usually goes bad quickly.
Time to start our day. I think we're headed to the park.

Color me embarrassed

Turns out I have been mistakenly blaming my children for something that is not their fault.

Today I came to the shocking revelation that.......
it is not always their fault we are late.

gasp.

frustrated

oooohhhh I'm frustrated. It has been one of those days.

I'm starting to get a throat "thing" and the Easter Cantata is this weekend. Did I mention I'm the narrator? So last night I use my "liquid crack" to help my cold symptoms/induce coma like sleep, and I wake up feeling worse. Not typical results, mind you. I think I've gotten a hold of some bad crack. (It's liquid Tylenol Cold, cool mint burst......usually works like a charm)

Next, my house is dirty. Most of the clutter is picked up, but it is dirty. In other words, "your tetnus shot had better be up to date if you come over" dirty. AND it is muggy outside, so everything feels sticky and dirty. Oh wait, that might be legitimate sticky, not weather related sticky......did I mention my house is DIRTY?!

The last couple of weeks have challenged me emotionally and mentally. Not that there have been any life changing events, just things have come to a point that drew my attention. Enough of my attention to want to ask....WHAT THE ?????? Have you ever had a situation you thought was one way and it turns out the other party had an opposite perception? I'm not on Mars....this happens to other people right? After a while it makes me start to question my viewpoint. Maybe I'm the one that is wrong?! gasp.

I am blessed to have a strong sounding board to bounce ideas off of....his name is Andy. Even though we don't see things exactly the same, and sometimes not at all the same.....what we do agree on is we are equals in this marriage. If I am mad, he's gonna know about it....but not because I'm slamming things and not talking......quite the opposite. I USE MY WORDS. And Thank you Jesus, so does he. We also know that it's a lot easier to solve a conflict by not ignoring it.
Andy and I have recently adopted the motto "Same Team!" Have you ever been at a basketball game and seen two players, from the same team, both go up for a rebound and accidently work against each other to get the ball. The crowd/coaches yell "Same Team! Same Team!" to tell the players....stop working against each other--your team has gotten the ball --now work together! Sometimes Andy and I are both so focused on winning one for our team, we forget that we are on the same team. We have had several really really good discussions in the last few weeks that we are going to file away in our brains and pull out again later.....waaaaay later when we are old and gray. I LOVE when we are able to talk our way through a problem and learn something that we can store away and use in the future....
It's as if we are one step closer to having it ALL figured out.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Seriously, I'm still frustrated, but I love my husband, I love my really good and amazing kids......and I just saw that my 16yr old Bailey posted "Anything is possible with God!" on facebook.

Amen to that.

Loot

Nope, I am not kidding.
And this does not include all the things they got....flip flops, bubbles, stickers, swimsuits, little trinket toys, pinwheels, ponytail holders, fingernail polish, kites, bouncy balls, stuffed animals, pencils, notebooks and post-it notes, bath stuff, baby dolls, craft kits, and money.
We are a blessed bunch of people.
